§ Genesis
The idea that our greatest assets are not just what we own, but what we learn, overcome, contribute, and share.
The Life Capital Society emerged from a simple observation: some of the most valuable knowledge in the world is earned through experience, yet much of that wisdom remains invisible, disconnected, and difficult for others to access.

§ I — The Foundation
The Life Capital Society did not begin with a blank page.
It draws inspiration from decades of research exploring the resources that help people navigate life, overcome challenges, and create meaningful futures.
The concept is influenced by:
Human Capital
the skills and knowledge we acquire.
Social Capital
the relationships and networks that support us.
Cultural Capital
the values, norms, and experiences that shape our understanding of the world.
Psychological Capital
hope, resilience, optimism, and confidence.
Recovery Capital
the groundbreaking work of researchers including Dr. David Best, Dr. Robert Granfield, and Dr. William Cloud, demonstrating that positive resources play a critical role in helping people move forward after adversity.
People are more than their circumstances. They are the sum of the assets they build throughout life.

Recovery Capital — a foundational influence
§ II — From Recovery Capital to Life Capital
Recovery Capital helped us recognize that people possess assets beyond money and credentials. Social Capital measures the value of relationships. Human Capital measures knowledge and skills. Life Capital extends this thinking by recognizing the value of lived experience itself — the wisdom, resilience, perspective, and insight earned through life.
Recovery Capital transformed how many people think about recovery.
Rather than focusing only on problems, deficits, or diagnoses, it emphasized strengths, relationships, opportunities, and resources.
That insight inspired a broader question:
What if the same strengths-based framework could help us understand growth across all major life transitions?
The Life Capital Society explores the possibility that the assets people develop through these experiences may hold value far beyond the moments in which they were earned.
§ III — What Is Life Capital?
Life Capital
The accumulated assets, capabilities, relationships, wisdom, and lived experiences that help people navigate life's challenges and create value for themselves and others.
Life Capital grows when experience becomes wisdom and wisdom becomes contribution.
A Lineage of Ideas
Recovery Capital — pioneered by Dr. David Best, Dr. Robert Granfield, and Dr. William Cloud — is a foundational influence, not something being replaced. Life Capital extends its strengths-based lens to every major life transition.
§ IV — Why This Matters Now
Humanity has built remarkable systems for preserving information.
But there are few systems designed to preserve and share lived experience at scale.
As a result, countless lessons are learned and lost every day.
The Life Capital Society exists to help connect those experiences, elevate the wisdom they contain, and create opportunities for people to learn from one another.

§ V — Looking Forward
The Life Capital Society is more than a community.
It is an exploration of a simple but profound idea:
The experiences we earn throughout life may be among our most valuable assets.
Our mission is to discover them, connect them, preserve them, and help them create value for others.
Because wisdom should not disappear when a story ends.
