What anxiety taught me about control

Anxiety, for me, was a control problem dressed up as a feeling. The more I tried to manage every outcome, the louder the signal got.

What helped wasn't a technique. It was a daily, embarrassingly small practice of letting one thing be uncertain on purpose. Sending an email without rereading it twelve times. Going somewhere without mapping the route. Saying I don't know in a meeting.

Each one was a tiny rehearsal for the truth I was avoiding: I was never in control of the things I was trying to control. I was only in control of how rigidly I held them.

The anxiety isn't gone. It's quieter, because it has less to do.
